As with all aftermarket options in any industry, they are a lower cost alternative with some aspect of inferiority. This is no different with lighting. We have some great detail in our blog here:

While we do offer the best of the aftermarket options, they are still not going to reach the benchmark that is set by the original lamp manufacturer as the technology is patented. In result, it is slightly different technology and simply not the same. However, it is also important to note that we have provided over a million aftermarket projection lamps to our customer base over the past 15 plus years. While we always recommend the original (Philips in this case) we do also stand by the aftermarket should that be the product you choose.
