Bulb Swap Tutorial - How To Open Up a Toshiba Y66 Lamp Housing

Posted by Dalton Ikenberry at

Hey guys, today we are going to be looking at swapping a new lamp into an old Y66-LMP housing for Toshiba TVs. Sometimes these TVs can have some issues with how long they have been on the market. One of these issues is overheating, this happens because the TVs will build up with dust over time. The TVs have no air filter on them to prevent this from happening and over the last few years this has become a bigger issue. This has lead to warping of the plastic inside the lamp compartment. When this happens, the only housing that will fit inside your TV and work with the TV is the housing that was in the TV when the issue occurred. In this blog we will go over a step by step on how to get the lamp out of the housing so you can install a new one. Always remember that touching the bare lamp can transfer oils from our fingertips and in turn create 'hot spots' that will end up in premature lamp failure. Due to this we always recommend to wear appropriate gloves when handling bulbs. You can also check out our YouTube Video for more information!

Step 1.
Locate the 2 screws that are help holding the back of the housing in place. The housing is made up of 2 parts and is held in by 3 screws, remove the 2 imaged below first:

Step 2.

Locate the 3rd screw holding the housing together. This is by the connector that supplies power to the lamp, you can see this in the image below, circled in red:

Step 3.

Next we remove the 2 screws that hold the connector in place, these are imaged here:

Step 4.

We can now remove the back half from the housing and pop the connector out from the other side. The back half will not fully come off until the connector is popped out, there should be plenty of slack to reach inside the housing and pop out the connector.

Step 5.

Now that the back of the housing is removed you can remove the 4 screws and metal clips imaged below that hold the bulb in place, once removed you can then take the bulb out and put the new bulb in its place.

After this, just repeat the steps in reverse order and the new lamp will be fully secured in the old housing and will be ready to install into the TV.
